Golden Milk: Whole Body Healing with Ancient Ayurveda
Ayurvedic medicine, or Ayurveda, is an ancient Indian healing system developed over 3,000 years ago. This system is based on holistic, or whole body, functioning and the relationships between the systems of our minds, bodies, and spirits. Because Ayurveda is concerned with the whole body, its approach is to promote wellness in each of these areas.
Golden milk is an Ayurvedic recipe that has found its way into the Western limelight because of the myriad benefits that it offers (as well as being delicious). The main ingredient, turmeric, contains curcumin which has been found to provide over 150 therapeutic offerings. Curcumin contains antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, as well as helps regulate metabolism, detoxify the liver, boost immunity, maintain cholesterol levels, and may improve memory and brain function. This Ayurvedic detox drink is something of a magic elixir.
Golden Milk, the New Coffee
It may be hard to throw out that morning coffee habit, but as you can see, the benefits speak for themselves. Try different milks to see which tastes best to you and add in things like cinnamon or cardamom to give it a little extra seasonal flavor. Instead of your morning vanilla latte, add a little vanilla in your Golden Milk and take a few extra moments to enjoy the mixture of smells and warmth of the froth (or even some whipped cream on top!) Take some time out of your day to slow down, warm up, and just sip. Whether your mind takes you to faraway India, or your vacation plans this spring, give yourself the treat of Ayurvedic healing and relaxation.
